Charles D. Sigsbee Journal and Sketchbook, 1860-1867.

Journal of a voyage from Norfolk, VA to Horta, Portugal (on Fayal Island in the Azores) in 1860 by sailor Sigsbee, who later became a Rear Admiral in the United States Navy. Contains poetry and sketches of life at sea. During the journey the unnamed ship spoke the ship Columbo of New York. Captain Craven is mentioned.

One 8" X 10" journal.

Charles Dwight Sigsbee (January 16, 1845 – July 13, 1923) was a rear admiral in the United States Navy. In his earlier career he was a pioneering oceanographer and hydrographer. He is best remembered as the captain of USS Maine, which exploded in Havana harbor, Cuba, in 1898. The explosion set off the events that led up to the start of the Spanish–American War....
